New Palette Knife Painting

I have returned from a 4 year hiatus and hope to begin adding even more new work!

Three New Palette Knife Paintings

All three of these paintings were painted in oils using a palette knife. The first is another painting of Surey Ridge Farm and is 18" x 24." The second is titled "PEI Cove" and is also 18" x 24." The last is a Colorado lanscape and is 20" x 15."

"Surey Ridge Farm"

These are two new paintings of a farm not far away from where I live. Both are 18" x 24" and are painted with a pallete knife and oil paint.

"Early Morning Light"

This oil painting is 18" x 24" and was done on MDF with brushes and a painting knife.

"Village Light"

This oil painting is 18" x 24" and was painted with a palette knife on MDF.

"Taos Adobe"

This is a painting that I did after visiting Taos, New Mexico. it is oil paint on 18" x 24" MDF.

"PEI Landscape"

This was painted from a scene I observed driving from Charlottetown to the Confederation Bridge. Oil paint on MDF, 16" x 20".

"Winters Grip"

This is an oil painting, 12" x 20," painted with a palette knife on MDF. Jim

Two Mixed Media Plein Air Paintings

These two works were done Plein Air using mixed media on paper. For these works the artist used charcoal, india ink, marker, crayon, watercolor, tempera and soft pasted. Both are 11" x 14"

"Colorado Farm"

This is an oil painting painted from a photograph taken while Plein Air painting with a group of friends. 16" x 20" on MDF panel.

"Sydney Street Light"

This is an oil painting done from a photograph taken in Charlottetown, PEI this last summer. It is 18" x 24", oil on MDF panel.

"Farm On A Cold Morning"

This oil painting is 16" x 24 on MDF panel.

"Beaconsfield House"

This Victorian house overlooks Charlottetown Harbor in Charlottetown, PEI. This is an oil painting, 20" x 16" on a MDF panel.

These are a few of my most recently completed "works on paper." All are 11" x 14" and were done with mixed media: charcoal, carbon pencil, marker, tempera, watercolor, india ink and soft pastels. "The Sam Adams Cataract Cure"

This is another quick mixed media work on paper. I did this one soon after returning from the optomotrists office. I went hoping to get new glasses to correct my vision which seemed to be failing. Well, nothing could be done with glasses because of a cataract! So now it is time for cataract surgery. The medical stuff is wearing on me, but it is creating opportunities for strong emotional expression. A heck of a price for inspiration!! 24" x 18" crayon, charcoal, marker, watercolor, casein, india ink and pencil. Jim

Mixed Media Works On Paper

After spending a week in the Hospital when both of my kidneys shut down I began to put down on paper quick studies that expressed my experiences. These are raw and emotional and I think they express the direness of my condition. All are 18" x 24" and are mixed media on paper.

"Park Pond"

This is a Plein Air painting that I did today. This is a scene from a nearby park that I have driven by in the past, but had never stopped to look around. The painting was done quickly....less than an hour....and is 10" x 8" on a MDF panel. I appreciate any critique or comments. Jim

"Red Shores"

This is anther painting that I did from photos and memory. This is near Victoria, PEI, Canada. The soil, the sand and the rock on PEI are all red. For a painter it is a bonannza! This is 18" x 24", oil on MDF panel. Jim

"New Potatoes"

This is a studio painting done from memory and photo references. The scene is rural Prince Edward Island where potato farms proliferate. The beautiful greens of the foilage are enhanced and brightened by the rich and vibrantly warm red soil. the size of this oil painting is 18" x 24" and is painted on a MDF panel. Jim

Took a trip to Rocky Mtn Park today with Mark Coulter. There we met Nancy Rynes and her husband Tom. Tom went fishing while the rest of us painted. This is one of the ones (Painting!) that I thought was a "keeper." 10" x 8" oil on MDF panel.
